# Overview
Dalas Greybark is a 46 year old male [[Human]] [[Cavalier]] [[Fighter]] from [[Respite|The City of Respite]] within [[The Alavastian Empire]].
He was raised in [[The Greybark Family]] and apprenticed at their smithy, [[Greybark Steel]] before joining [[The Order of the Green Blades]], where he attained the rank of [[Squire]] before deserting.
Dalas spent the next thirty years living an unremarkable life as a laborer until a fateful encounter with the [[Arzylian Kobold]] [[Prynazalya]] set him back on the path of an adventurer.
Despite being an [[Oathbreaker]], his goal is to simply live up to his ideal of chivalrous self sacrifice.

# Description
## Appearance
Dalas is a stout, if unremarkable middle aged human man with a bushy beard and hair just short of shoulder length. In a tavern full of peasants, one might note him as strong or hardy compared to the rest, but in a tavern of adventurers one may not notice him at all. His face is creased and there are dark circles under his eyes, his exhausted expression is the reward of a life of hard labor. He is tall and strong, but does not possess a refined physique. His pants are patchwork and his tunic is threadbare in places.
## Personality
Dalas is a serious, quiet, kind soul. He possesses little, but is generous with what he does have. He takes his work seriously, and likes to see the best in people. He is not aggressive or boisterous, and prefers not to fight.

# History
## Early History ([[1442 AoM|1442]]-[[1488 AoM|1488 AoM]])
### Childhood ([[1442 AoM|1442]]-[[1456 AoM]])
Dalas Greybark was born in on [[10 Flamerule 1442]]. He is the son of [[Maria Greybark|Maria]] and [[Gunther Greybark]], and the younger brother of [[Luther Greybark]].
Dalas was raised in [[Respite|The City of Respite]], the lone city that stands in the center of the immense [[Arzylia|Arzylian Plain]]. The culture of Respite, resulting from the origins of it's [[The Heroes of The Battle of Respite|greatest heroes]], values heroism, solidarity, and self sacrifice above all else.
As a child, Dalas grew to love his stories of heroism, chief among them the exploits of [[The Order of the Green Blades]], Respite's own order of [[Paladin|Paladins]]. The histories and legends of The Green Blades painted them as heroes, holding together human civilization through their bitter work, heroic sacrifice, and the power of their green [[Arzyliamorn's Crystal Blades|Crystal Blades]], fragments of the [[Crystal Dragon]] [[Arzyliamorn]], which still held her draconic magic one thousand years after [[The Battle of Respite|her death]].
For each year that Dalas grew, his passion for these tales grew twofold, and joining The Order of the Green Blades quickly became Dalas' dream. Though many children dreamt of joining The Order, the culture of Respite was a utilitarian and collectivistic one, and as children grew, they began to feel the weight of the city's expectation to apply their true talents and aptitudes for the good of their fellow man, often at the expense of their own wants. In the end, very few children were called to the life of a [[Knight]].
For Dalas, this expectation called him to [[Blacksmith|blacksmithing]], his family's trade, which he did show some promise in. But as his friends grew and accepted their roles in society, Dalas dreamt his dream of Knighthood still.
Dalas' best chance at joining The Green Blades was participation in [[Glacialhide's Harvest]], the annual tournament and central feature of Respite's Harvest Festival. Those who do well in the tournament are recruited into the [[The City Watch of Respite|City Watch]], [[The Order of the Green Blades|The Green Blades]], [[Mercenary]] Companies, other Knightly Orders, or even go on to become famed adventurers.
#### [[Glacialhide's Harvest of 1454]]
For all the excitement and glory that comes with Glacialhide's Harvest, Dalas experienced little of it, as he was eliminated rather unceremoniously in the first round of the youth division of the tournament.
#### [[Glacialhide's Harvest of 1455]]
Dalas once again participated in Glacialhide's Harvest only to once again face defeat in the first round.
#### [[Glacialhide's Harvest of 1456]]
Dalas participated in Glacialhide's Harvest once again, facing a defeat even more crushing than the last. Despite his failure, his tenacity was noticed by a Knight, [[Sigmund Call|Sir Sigmund Call]].
### The Order of the Green Blades ([[1457 AoM|1457]]-[[1458 AoM|1458 AoM]])
#### [[Knighting Day of 1457]]
At fourteen years of age, Dalas was finally admitted into The Green Blades as a [[Page]] on [[Knighting Day of 1457]].
Dalas took to his studies in The Order with great enthusiasm. In the beginning he received formal education in history, etiquette, tactics, survival skills, and swordsmanship. Despite this, he showed little talent. Dalas failed to perform any form of holy magic, and his swordsmanship progressed slower than his peers, [[Rilan Forgeflame]] and [[Corva Lightleaf]]. What he lacked in skill and talent, he made up for in part with tenacity and enthusiasm.
#### [[Training With Rilan]] ([[1457 AoM]])
![[Training With Rilan]]
#### [[Knighting Day of 1458]]
On [[Knighting Day of 1458]] Dalas took his first [[Oath]], and became a [[Squire]] to Sir Sigmund Call, wielder of [[The Crystal Blade, Fight to the Last]], who first saw potential in him.
Sigmund was a serious and methodical man, and applied himself diligently and seriously to all matters, and in his short time as a Knight had quickly silenced whispers of nepotism with his exemplary performance as a Knight. To Dalas, Sigmund represented the ideal of Knighthood. The two became close allies.
#### [[Failed Green Blade Escort Mission]] ([[1458 AoM]])
After nearly two years of training with Sir Sigmund, Dalas was assigned to his first [[Failed Green Blade Escort Mission|field mission]] alongside Sir Sigmund and [[Rodrick Stonegate|Sir Rodrick Stonegate]], a [[Goliath|Half-Giant]] and a fellow Knight of The Green Blades, though he did not carry a Crystal Blade. Rodrick contrasted Sigmund's methodical nature with a reputation for being brash and decisive.
The mission was simple: escort a caravan of merchants along the southern route of the Arzylian Plain, and ensure commerce through the region continues. The mission began and proceeded at first uneventfully, but on the fifth night, during Dalas' watch, the caravan was caught unawares by an ambush, and the silent winter night erupted into fire, screaming, and the clanging of steel.
Sigmund and Rodrick awoke immediately, before Dalas could even react to the ambush, and rushed to the defense of the caravan.
Despite Sigmund's prowess on the battlefield, he was quickly and brutally killed by the attackers. He died unflinching, never looking back, and never showing fear. A methodical and serious to the end, he never took his eyes off of his enemy, and fought to his last breath.
_Fight To The Last_ clattered to the ground.
With iron resolve, Rodrick lurched forward, grabbing _Fight To The Last_ before it had fully settled on the ground, determined to uphold the legacy of the esteemed blade, and in the same breath leapt into the fray and continued Sigmund' assault. Sir Rodrick fought with great valor, and died equally quickly.
_Fight To The Last_ clattered, again, to the ground.
And there it stayed, as Dalas Greybark was already desperately fleeing for his life.
### Self Imposed Exile ([[1458 AoM|1458]]-[[1488 AoM|1488 AoM]])
Ashamed of his cowardice and distraught over the dishonor he had brought to his home, his family, the Order, and his mentor's legacy, Dalas never returned to Respite.
News quickly reached Respite of the loss of the convoy and of The Green Blades escorting it, and while Sigmund and Rodrick's bodies were recovered, Dalas Greybark was never found. Unbeknownst to Dalas, the Crystal Blade, _Fight To The Last_ was lost that night.
Dalas fled, eventually finding himself in the small town of [[Lanter's Tower (Town)|Lanter's Tower]].
#### [[The Thrall War]] ([[1459 AoM]])
When [[The Thrall War]] broke out, Dalas left Lanter's Tower as soon as the fighting broke out, fleeing for his life once again again.
As [[The Dragon Wars]] waned and [[The Conquest of Urgan, Doombringer]] raged, Dalas found himself leaving town at first rumor of the war's approach, moving further and further from the fighting.
Dalas spent the next 30 years living a life of lies, secrets, self loathing, and regret, moving from one odd job to the next, never allowing himself to form serious relationships or develop the few opportunities that came his way.
#### Time in Squall's End ([[1488 AoM]])
Eventually, he took a job working as a line cook in a tavern, where he learned a great many cooking techniques from the enigmatic [[Grub|"Grub"]] before moving on to work for [[Gresha Redmud]] of the [[Land-Trade Inc.]] in [[Squall's End]], ferrying goods and passengers for meager coin, alongside [[Miece]] and [[Flame Emperor]], the mules who pulled his carriage.
His notable passengers included [[Lambholt]], a cheesemaker, and [[Cormoran Damnstein]], an old mercenary who left his [[Damnstein's Old Wooden Shield|Shield]] and [[Damnstein's Rusty Old Ringmail|Ringmail]] with Dalas so that he might protect himself. From time to time, he found himself at [[The Diprosopus Goat]], ordering a hard cider from [[Rinda]].
